Skating in Central Park

Our final day started at Grand Central Station. I had to get a couple more of my stock photos!

We got the subway to Central Park where Alice really wanted to go ice skating. Fortunately the snow had been cleared and the rink was open.

Just look at the concentration!

"Where's the barrier gone?"

Alice really enjoyed it even though the ice was "a lot slippier than at Solihull".

The weather was fantastic and with all of the snow still on the ground, it will be a nice way to remember Central Park and our holiday in New York.

THANK YOU BETFAIR!!

Empire State Building

This morning we walked down to 34th Street and the Empire State Building.

The lobby is very impressive with marble from floor to ceiling.

The views from the 86th floor aren't bad either.

Alice and Holly weren't messing with the NYPD!

After our trip to the top we went on the NY skyride, a simulated flight around the skyscrapers of Manhattan which was pretty good and the kids enjoyed it.

After a spot of shopping in Macy's we walked up to Times Square.

Central Park

The Chrysler Building is just across from our hotel and provided an ideal opportunity to test out my new lens.

Grand Central Station was a bit busier this morning.

The weather was a lot better today so we headed out to Central Park which was still covered in snow.

People were even skiing to work!.

Holly preferred to travel on her new sledge.

Despite the sun and blue sky it was still bitterly cold.

We went for a ride around the park on horse and carriage.

The ice rink was closed as they were still clearing the snow!

WhiteOut

Typical! We are in New York for only 5 days and experience the worst blizzard for years.

The girls enjoyed their snowball fight on the way to breakfast.

Grand Central Station really is a fantastic location for photography. I will be back again with the new lens I bought today.

I don't think Alice will forget today for a long time.

We've Arrived

Our body clocks had still not adjusted to New York time and as a result we were up and about by 5:30 am. We walked a couple of blocks down 42nd Street from our hotel to Grand Central Station.

We grabbed a bite to eat and then ventured onto the underground.

We headed downtown towards the financial district and paid a visit to Ground Zero.

Next we headed south to Battery Park where we found this ruined "globe" sculpture which once stood in the lobby of the World Trade Centre.

Battery Park had many other interesting sculptures.

We decided to get the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
There was plenty of entertainment as we waited in line.

The ferry passed close by Liberty Island before docking.

From here the views of Manhattan were fantastic.

We walked around the monument

before going inside for a look around the museum.

The elevator took us to the top of the pedestal from where the view was spectacular.

They even had Statue of Liberty lollies for the kids!

Later on we walked back to the financial district and Wall Street

and took a look around the South Street Seaport

from where you can see the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.
